INAUGURAL MEMBER SESSION

THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF WOMEN IN FILM & TELEVISION SAN ANTONIO GATHER TO CELEBRATE AND CHART THE OFFICIAL CHAPTER’S COURSE FOR 2024

On February 27, 2024 the founding members of Women in Film & Television San Antonio gathered for their inaugural member session held at Third Coast Bank to celebrate the formation of the non-profit (founded 11/11/23) that is an official chapter of the global organization founded in 1973 in Hollywood that now has over 12,000 members globally. To kick off the session, founding CEO Ceslie Armstrong read the following statement from Women in Film and Television International president Dr. Susan Liddy:

“Welcome to WIFTI’s newest chapter, WIFT San Antonio! We’re delighted you’re joining us and look forward to developing close ties with you. As President of Women in Film and Television International, I want to extend the hand of friendship to you and assure you of our support and shared vision. Our members may be divided by land and sea but we are one at heart.

We are a community and our desire for an equal, diverse and inclusive industry is the glue that binds us together. This is an important moment for the San Antonio chapter as you strike out together under the WIFTI banner. I send best wishes to each and every one of you, my thoughts are with you all on this historic moment for your organisation.” ~ Dr. Susan Liddy, President, Women in Film and Television International

Women in Film & Television San Antonio (WIFT SATX+)  is the leading nonprofit membership organization chartered in November 2023 for people working in or pursuing a career in the Media & Entertainment industry in San Antonio, the Hill Country, the Coastal Bend, and South Texas including students, partners, and advocates of the organization.

WIFT SATX+ is proudly an official chapter of Women in Film & Television International “WIFTI” (Women in Film & Television International), a global network of more than 12,000 members and 70 partners and chapters located on six continents that for more than 50 years has been dedicated to advancing professional development and achievement for women working in all areas and expertise in the Media & Entertainment industry including film, video, journalism, performing arts, live entertainment, law, and more.

“I’m delighted to welcome Women in Film and Television San Antonio to our international organisation,” continued Dr. Susan Liddy, president of Women in Film & Television International (WIFTI), “As the team, headed by Ceslie Armstrong, prepares for its inaugural meeting one can’t but reflect on San Antonio’s proud heritage. After all, the first Academy award-winning feature film, ‘Wings’ starring Clara Bow was made in San Antonio! I know you have a long history of media and entertainment entrepreneurship and many women are employed in the sector.  It seems to be the perfect place to form a WIFT community and it’s inspiring to see so many members at the top of their profession coming together in support of gender equality. Gender equality, diversity and inclusion are the goals that unite the WFTI community across the world,” said Dr Susan Liddy.

Women in Film & Television San Antonio was founded by native San Antonian and Media & Entertainment veteran Ceslie Armstrong at the invitation of the global organization, Armstrong stated, “San Antonio and the region our charter serves represents over 35MM people who participate in storytelling as content creators or consumers,” continued Armstrong, “As the location of award-winning media and entertainment properties; world-class theatres and venues; landmark M&E companies founded by visionary entrepreneurs; and, one of the most visited regions in the world with a deep well of stories to be told, San Antonio is perfectly positioned to drive economic development via training, production opportunities, and forge a strong community throughout our region. I had to leave San Antonio in 1979 to pursue a professional career in New York City and Los Angeles and my vision is for WIFT SATX+ to work in tandem with organizations, venues, distributors, and several new educational programs to keep our talent pool in our region. I’m excited to connect my high-level industry relationships with the members of WIFT SATX+ to shine a light on our region’s talent comprised of the many professions it takes to produce original IP for audiences locally and globally.”

The Women in Film & Television San Antonio mission and programming are dedicated to promoting equity for women in the Media & Entertainment industry, and the organization offers memberships for all people who want to advocate, align with, and show support. College students from across the state, individuals with an interest in learning about the industry, partner organizations, and corporate members comprise the membership and team. The WIFT SATX+ mission includes building community across the industry while collaborating with other WIFTI chapters and partners globally and organizations in the region we serve.

Third Coast Bank located in downtown San Antonio at the historic Light Building hosted the inaugural member session. Third Coast Bank women executives attended the session including the financial institution’s Advisory Director Mary Brennan Stich whose prestigious legal career includes expertise in intellectual property specifically in the media and entertainment industry. The Women in Film & Television San Antonio members found Stichs’ remarks very valuable.

“As a financial institution, we understand the importance of investing in diverse talent pipelines. By supporting organizations like Women in Film & Television San Antonio, we’re helping to cultivate the next generation of female storytellers, creators, and industry leaders. We chose to make the Light Building in downtown our San Antonio location because we see the future potential and historic importance in communication and entertainment for our city’s long-term prosperity,” said Mary Brennan Stich, Advisory Director, Third Coast Bank.

“With San Antonio often referred to as the “third coast” in the entertainment industry coupled with the location of the original Light newspaper building now housing Hearst’s San Antonio Express-News and newly acquired San Antonio Magazine, we are thrilled to be hosted by Third Coast Bank in their beautiful location overlooking several vistas of historic mixed with new structures that tell the story of San Antonio,” said Executive Producer, and Women in Film & Television San Antonio founding Vice President Eileen Kret.
